If I increase disk size in Azure Site Recovery, do I need to make any changes?

If you increase the size of a protected VM’s managed premium SSD disk using Azure Site Recovery, you may need to make some changes depending on the specific scenario. Here are some possible scenarios and the steps you may need to take:

  1. If the VM is running and replicating to a secondary site:
    • In this case, you can increase the size of the disk without any additional steps. The changes will be automatically replicated to the secondary site.
  2. If the VM is running, but replication is temporarily stopped:
    • In this case, you should increase the size of the disk and then resume replication. The changes will be automatically replicated to the secondary site.
  3. If the VM is running, but replication is permanently stopped:
    • In this case, you should increase the size of the disk and then re-protect the VM. This will create a new replication relationship between the primary and secondary sites, and the changes will be replicated to the secondary site.
  4. If the VM is stopped:
    • In this case, you can increase the size of the disk and then restart the VM. The changes will be available on the VM after it is restarted.

In any case, it’s always a good practice to take a backup of the VM before making any changes to the disk size.
