How to Manually install Community Server 2008 (Installation)
Solution

1. First you will need to create a MS SQL database if one has not already been created from within Helm. Also set up a temp URL if the domain is not pointing to our servers yet.

2. Download the Web Install at Community Server 2008, Web Install

3. Extract all the files into the directory desired i.e. wwwroot, cs, communityserver, etc. Then move all the files from the Web directory from that directory into the one you want the CS to be installed in. You can then delete the Web directory. Remember if you put it in a directory other than the wwwroot you will need to make that directory a Virtual Directory.

4. Go to the installer directory and open the default.aspx file in Notepad or something similar. Change the line that reads bool INSTALLER_ENABLED = false; to bool INSTALLER_ENABLED = true;. This will enable the web installer.

5. Go to the Installer directory in a browser. For example domainname.com/installer or domainname.com/cs/installer. This will bring up the web installer. Hit Next on the first screen.

6. Agree to the terms and agreement and it will then take you to SQL database information page. Enter the database server name and use the SQL Authentication. Then enter the username and password for the database you created in Helm and hit Next. Select the database name from the next page and hit Next.

7. Keep all installation options selected for the database and hit Next. This will run all the appropriate population scripts against the database.

8. Next you will create the admin user for the site's Community Server. Give it a username and password and enter the client's email address. You will need to send the client these login details so make sure you save them somewhere. You can check Create Sample Data then hit Next. Then the connection strings will be updated and you should be able to go to the site in a browser. Make sure you go back to the default.aspx file in the Installer directory and change it to be disabled so that no one can access this again.

9. Sign in as a user that you just created in the previous step.

10. On the main navigation toolbar go to Control Panel

11. On the Control Panel's Dashboard, under Licenses, click Manage Licenses.

12. Add the license key that the client provides you with.

13. Now you are done.
