How do I mirror the Backup Data Repository?
Solution

In Backup for Workgroups, you will need to use Mirroring feature to backup your Data Repository to another hard drive.  The mirror can only restore Backup for Workgroups data (not other data on the computer).

Configuring Your Mirror

Once you have the mirroring equipment in place you can configure the Data Repository mirror.

  1. Run Data Repository Manager.

  2. Press the Mirror button to display the Data Repository Mirror panel

  3. Press the Configure button to display the Configure Mirroring dialog.

  4. Click on the Enable mirroring option.

  5. Enter the path of the Mirror location.

If the Mirror is on another workstation or server, enter the computer and share point information. Example: \\FileServer\SharePoint\FolderName.  The account that the Backup for Workgroups service is running under must have the rights to access the share point on the storage device.

  6. Press OK to save your Mirror configuration.
How do I  Maintain my Mirror?

Backup for Workgroups will synchronize the Data Repository with the mirror. The Data Repository Manager updates the mirror when the Data Repository is idle and communicates with the mirror at minimum usage times.

Rotating your mirror media is accomplished through the Mirror panelwhich informs the Data Repository Manager. When you inform the Data Repository Manager that you are going to remove the mirror media, it makes sure that the mirroring process is halted and closes any open files for a safe removal.

To remove or rotate your mirror:

  1. Run the Backup for Workgroups Data Repository Manager.

  2. Press the Mirror button to display the Data Repository Mirror panel.

  3. Press the Pause button to stop any communication between the Data Repository and the mirror.

  4. You may now power this computer down and remove the media or hot-swappable media can be swapped without powering down.

  5. Rotate the media as desired.

  6. Power up the mirror computer.

  7. On the Data Repository computer, click the Continue button on the Mirror panel to restart the Mirroring synchronization process.
